Hi,

I have a quick question - the four spheres of Ritual Magic are listed as Blood, Dream, Gaia and Stitch. While the meaning/use of these can be deduced, the rules don't actually give them. Do you have a quick description for each of these?

Cheers,
Jim

Hey Jim,

As mentioned in the Other Planes (pg. 243) these spheres map onto the various realms. However, we purposefully left this a bit vague, as we want to leave space for each GM's interpretation. We thought it'd be useful to provide broad strokes, but we don't want to set this in stone. Kind of the nature of the beast, actually. In fact, in Twylos itself, you would have a hard time finding a consensus opinion about the spheres of Ritual Magic.

We do have our own deeper interpretation and symbolism, however, and in some places it shows through. Here's some food for thought: Do the 4 spheres of ritual magic relate to the 4 domains of faith magic?

Maybe I will provide a possibly interpretation in a future WGJ. If someone has their own, that would be great to see too.

Hi,

Interesting, I had noticed the mention of the Blood and Dream realms there and guessed that was part of the deal. I'm thinking a little more of the practical implications of the spheres though, in particular how do you decide what the points required for a spell should be? (Yes, I'm thinking about creating new spells/converting spells from other sources!)

My practical assessment of the areas they affect is:-

Blood - the body of any sentient individual.

Dream - the mind of any sentient individual.

Gaia - the world at large, be it living or not.

Stitch - make a non-permanent change in reality persist for a while.

Cheers,
Jim

That is awesome. Hope you'll share!

Your interpretations of the spheres are close to my own. Of course, some spell costs could be a matter of debate, but I think if you go with what you have, you'll be alright. Personally speaking, where Stitch and Gaea seem to overlap, Stitch tends towards corruption, whereas Gaea tends towards augmentation.
