Great Gods I am jealous.

I noticed the party hasn't skinned anything in awhile.

Another meta question, and perhaps those that have seen character sheets know the answer to this, who many magic items do Razz and Legar have?

I would also be curious as to the ages of the players, such as the youngest and oldest to play.

This game sounds very nice, thanks for posting all this.

Legar has a magic broad sword, a ring of strength, and an ioun stone (+1 physical resist)

I dont think Raz has any, just a bunch of spells (he is a priest of the Dragon)
Forgot he has an ioun stone of some sort

I am the oldest player at 46 and my son is the youngest at 21. There is one other at 23, 45 (they are also father and son) and the others are around 35 to 40 give or take a little

Lars and I have gamed off and on since we were in our teens. The rest of us have gamed together for the last 10 or so years

The group follows a demon named Sebastion towards the center of the city. The colors in the city are strange and gaudy. They approach a massive palace tower and pass many guards. They are led into a parlor and told that “Mistriss” will be with them shortly. Now they had all been expecting a fight and in preperation for that, Ivan had transformed himself into a lion. Razz had picked up his gear and was now carrying it. When a beautiful succubus came down the stairs Ivan was smitten and immediately changed back to his human form...his naked human form. Most everyone except Razz was shall we say impressed with the lady's presence. None more so than Ivan. The succubus introduced herself as Cassandra and she was well aware of Ivan's condition. She asked him to join her and he happily followed her to another room, barely aware that he took his gear from Razz.
“Should I dress first, milady?” he asked. She laughed and answered, “Why bother?”
Everyone’s attention was soon shifted to another impressive figure making her way down the stairs. Ivan was left to his devices with Cassandra. This female figure had six arms and was quite tall. She introduced herself as “Mother”.
She asked them their purpose in visiting her city. Razz told her that they had a message for a daemon named Madriganii Illiesse. Mother was not surprised at the name and said he was her son. She seemed amused and inquired as to the message. Razz told her it was a private message. There was a few moments of wordplay between the two. Varus made a comment that Razz sounded like Blackmoore now...That earned him a black look from Razz. Mother seemed amused with it all, including Ivan's dalliance with Cassandra. She told them that she would not interfere with their business and offered a guide to her son's tower. She told them they had 24 hours. Conn was sent after Ivan. Ivan had been offered not only Cassandra's bed, but riches and power as well. Ivan was bound to the elemental lords and their rituals however and it gave him enough strength to refuse the offer. Had the succubus been of the elemental realms he would have been more then happy to stay. This being the blood realm he was so inclined.
They were led out of the palace and into the city towards yet another tower. This one was 400 feet tall! It had railings and a balcony about 250 feet up and another one almost at the top. It was surrounded by a large courtyard with fountains at the 4 compass points. Despite the city being filled with cambions and other demons, the courtyard was empty. The residents of the city flowed around it, not a one even stepping a foot inside the boundry.
They were stopped in an alley some distance away. Conn was moving forward with his hood drawn up to scout the area. Just before he entered the courtyard Spirkle spoke up telling of something he had just seen. He spied a satyr-like demon waving a smiling at him. It was twirling an amulet of some sort. The group waited while Spirkle walked up to the demon to ask what it wanted. The group felt oddly safe as every fourth block there was a huge plate armored demon bearing the colors of “Mother”. They were assured that she would not interfere. They thought, perhaps mistakenly, that if she wouldn't bother them then who would?
The demon claimed to be the one who had took the form of Cooper in Vesbridge. The amulet was a stone seal from the Lodge of the Bronze Knight. He tossed it to Spirkle. “You're late”, he started, “I sent you the map, now come along, the prince is waiting.” Spirkle asked him where he got the stone seal. “It doesn't matter, but I will get a platinum one soon. Perhaps Legar's or Razz's. Go tell them for me.” Cooper said.
Spirkle walked back and relayed the information. The group started walking towards the inn where the satyr stood. It had a picture of a bloodied rose hanging out front. There were two large demons standing guard outside and at least 4 more inside at the corners of the room. Razz, Spirkle and Lars stand outside while the others just walked right in. There was a cambion sitting at the back of the inn. “Cooper” went to stand beside him and another commanding sort of demon stood at the cambions right. The cambion had a strange version of the Verona seal. It had to be Anton Verona, the bastard child of the late king of Llessendor. This is where the story gets twisted...and interesting. The word play that follows was twisted and lengthy, but here is the gist of it.
After taunting those outside by calling them cowards and refusing to go on until they joined the rest of them, Anton just sat there. He mentioned Morgan Verona was there and free to go if he so chose. Razz, Lars and Spirkle got tired of waiting and no longer cared if it were a trap or not and went inside. Anton at first claimed to want to help them. Through a convoluted conversation it becomes apparent that Pyra (the other commanding demon) was the one that sent the original message to Razz, claiming to be the ancient drake from Zalen Vale. Razz is not amused at the demons imitation of what to him is a holy creature. After an hour of sparring with words a contract is agreed upon. Spirkle wants 100 platinum orbs. Lars wants Anton to give up his claim to the Llesendor throne and the release of Morgan Verona. Anton agreed to this and safe passage back for all of them to their home realm. In exchange the group would steal a great golden wolfs head with the name “Madriganii Illiesse” on its base. Before the contract is signed however Razz and the others want more proof of this “game” that Anton mentions. It seems that the royal family in this demon city play a game of power. Much like a chess game. Anton offers to show the group the chess board. Spirkle, Rufus and Varus go to see it. It is indeed a giant chess board..with real demons for pieces. There are several remains of dead demons where chess piece has taken chess piece. The game takes on a deadly meaning here. It appears that it is Anton's move...and his opponent is Mother!
Razz, Legar and Lars head back to the palace while the others in their group visit the chess board. Ivan it should be noted stayed at the inn to rest and eat. The palace guards allow Razz, Legar and Lars inside, but they are met by Cassandra and not Mother. She offers them safe passage in exchange for Ivan. They get only hints at what is really going on, but enough to know they are stuck in the middle. Ivan is not a slave and they can't offer him up that way. Cassandra accepts this as a deal of some sort. Who knows what she is planning, but it seems separate from the game. They head back to the Bloodied Rose. Gathered together once more they note as the walk back that the citizens of the city avoid them, but seem to whisper behind them once they have passed. Evidently its widely known who they are and why they are here. Of notable exception to this is Varus. He is a cambion himself. The citizens do not avoid him as they do the others. He is slipped a message that says simply “negotiate” by some invisible hand.
The contract is made and signed in blood by them all, including Anton. Razz tried to stay out of it, but Anton would not make the deal unless they all signed. He issues a command and Morgan Verona is brought forth (unconscious but starting to rouse) Spirkle asks for a rule book to this great game. Spirkle is quite impressed with it. Anton refuses at first then seems to relent and throws Spirkle a scroll case. He also commanded Cooper (who has stated that he wants Legars form next) to guide them. Cooper objects violently, but Anton brooks no refusal. Razz goes so far as to ask, “Do you have a collar for your dog?” Surprisingly Anton provides a chain and collar to Razz for Cooper. Razz locks the collar around the satyr-like demons neck. Cooper leads them to the Library.
They move towards a truly massive building. There are steps that lead up to a pair of great double doors. Cooper refuses to go any further. At this point they find out that the collar and leash can actually compel Cooper to do or tell them anything the holder of the leash asks. Razz uses this well. He asks for information about the library and the task ahead. Cooper tells them of 3 witches that guard the library. Cooper refuses to go in with words, but when Razz commands Cooper can't resist, so he opens the double doors. They check the doors to make sure it didn't lock behind them. They are led by Cooper to a special chamber in the library.
The library is beyond imagining. The shelves are 20 feet tall and all filled with books, and other then the chamber door there is nothing to see but shelves in every direction. Cooper is forced to open this door as well. Inside is a pedestal with a bronze bowl on it. Once inside there is a flash of brilliant multicolored light. They find themselves back at the Cackling Crow! Back in the very chamber they started from. Several of them have passed out from the journey once more, including Cooper. They wake the others. The door to the chamber is being opened from the other side...and sure enough its Blackmoore that comes in?!
They have traveled into the past. It is now two days before they remember arriving at the Cackling Crow. They understand now the confusion from before. They explain to Blackmoore what is going on. They are told of a mirror that lies in a cave a couple of days away. Its a portal mirror like the one under guard at the Bronze Knight. Blackmoore insists that they leave quickly to avoid a time paradox. (Blackmoore is quite intelligent it seems) They tell Blackmoor about Duncan the ogre and his possession of the mirror oil that they will need. They give Blackmoore the scroll case that is suppose to explain the game. Its needed by Blackmoore to sacrafice the demon (Cooper) and send them on the journey to start with. Things are slowly falling in place. They leave quickly and set into motion those clues that lead their past selves to the inn. They plant the map, they set up the piked head, they make the stone markers and finally are forced to abandon a camp quickly when their past selves get too close. (which explains the empty camp and stewpot they found on the way to the Cackling Crow)
They find the cave and apply the mirror oil. They then step though the portal it creates and into the very center of the great library in the bloodrealm. There in the center is the golden bust of a wolf. Its large and must weigh over 250 lbs. Its on a rock pedastal surrounded by 16 statues in various poses. They all face inward towards the wolf's head. There is no time to look around as they are immediately attacked by 3 medusa. They are aware of the danger of looking into the medusa's eyes, but have no choice but to fight. The medusa use poison blades which only adds to the danger. Several wounds are taken in the fight, but no one is turned to stone. With the fall of the enemies they turn their attention back to the golden trophy they have sought. At first they think the statues are simply others that have fought the medusa and lost, perhaps to come back to life when someone tries to take the bust. On closer inspection though it is made clear that the statues were not stoned creatures. They still fear a trap and try to break or topple the statues.
The statues themselves refuse to be moved somehow. Razz calls forth what looks like a great earth elemental some 20 feet tall (animate earth) and uses it to try to break the statues. The mobile rock monster delivers a crushing attack to one of the arms of a statue. There is a tremendous retort, almost like gunfire and the arm breaks off and crashes to the ground. Ivan uses a magical dagger to stab one of the statues. It sinks in like a knife into butter, but wont come back out. Razz tries to have his creation pull the dagger out, but it can't get a grip on the tiny dagger. Lars is able to draw it back out of the stone. Other weapons seem to bounce off and threaten to break when used on the statues. Ivan opens up a crevice underneath 3 of the statues and they fall heavily into the pit, but do not break.
The group finally decided to just grab the bust and run. They will have the animated earth carry the object freeing the group to fight the statues should they animate. They don't know which way to go however. Conn heads out to find the exit. The others wait and prepare. Finally by climing one of the 20 foot shelves Conn spies the way out in the distance. They regroup and prepare themselves for the fight. They know there is a trap there and want to try to replace the bust with another object to prevent its triggering. They use the arm that was busted off and Razz commands the animation to grab the golden bust. It picks the heavy object up in one immense hand, and they place the arm in its spot. It works! (for about 5 seconds)
There is a great rumble throughout the library. The statues do not animate, but melt as is made of so much sand. The ground has a spiderweb of cracks in it now and the floor has sunk a little. The statues dissolve into the cracks and a terrible cloud of vapor blasts upward. Its caustic and blinds Morgan Verona. They move away and out of the gas, leading Morgan along as fast as they can. The animation carrying the golden bust can't travel all that fast anyway. They are far from the entrance still when another rumble opens up a pit some distance in front of them. The monster that crawls out sends a shudder down everyone's spine. It's a demonic hydra-like creature. It sees them and makes a leap to land right in their midst. Ivan's summoned tiger is crushed under its feet. Two others are only damaged, but not killed. The terrible heads are able to attack independently and strike at everyone at once. Razz stands in the background commanding his animation forward to attack, using the bust as a crude club. The battle goes quickly bad as the hyrda spits that corrosive bile into anything it attacks. When hit it almost certainly blinds and burns. The group is quickly being brought to the edge of death. Spirkle falls and doesn't move. Varus is still able to see and tries pouring a potion down Spirkles throat anyway. The desperate move works and Spirkle is brought back from the brush with death. The real struggle is between the giants. The smaller beings, while able to damage the creature just can't get through its tough hide fast enough. Every swing of the earthen juggernaut smashes the life-force out of the demon. The fighters don't all go down, but everyone is wounded, save Razzeel. He stands commanding the animation and throwing spells to help the others or harm and hinder the beast. The animation strikes a final smash and the demonic beast explodes! Shrapnel from bones and teeth go everywhere. Acid and vapor spew forth blinding most. The death throes of the demon come very close to wiping the group out. Other then Spirkles near death, no one crosses that threshold. Razz and Spirkle move through the group healing and restoring sight. When all is done everyone is hale and fit once more. The dragon-god that Razz worships must indeed be with him, he suffered no injury and saved many. They walk onward towards the great double doors of the library.
The parting of those doors encites a deafening roar! The entire city is before them and had waited upon their exit or their defeat. Mother and Anton are both there in front with their guards. Anton demands the golden bust. Razz tells him to come get it. Anton sends a demon forward to collect it. The animation swings its great fist once more and smashes the demon with the bust, grinding it into the ground before releasing it. Anton only nods. Lars demands that Anton renounce the throne of Llesendor. Speaking as though it means nothing to him, Anton does so. He tells Pyra to guide us out. Spirkle is reminded of the money from the contract and wants to be paid. Anton produces a pouch full of gems and says that should settle accounts. Razz again stands up to the demons (hes either become a fool or grown balls of steel) the contract was for 100 platinum orbs and not gems. This bold move is met with some approval (and amusement). Anton complies, however reluctant he is. The contract is finished and will be complete to the letter upon their safe return. Pyra leads them to a portal. Surprisingly he provides a small, almost miniature, hammer and a pouch of what looks to be ash. “I believe you will need these. The hammer is to break the mirrors. The pouch, well, you will see when you arrive.” he states.
The group steps through the portal (lots of those around lately) and onto the grounds of the Lodge of the Bronze Knight. The guards are surprised to say the least. Joining the group is a living (albeit naked) Lord Blackmoore. Razz hands Blackmoore his Bronze Knight tabard to cover himself with. They use the hammer on the mirror and it shatters into tiny slivers. Morgan asks for the hammer to take to the second mirror so he can break it himself. A private covered coach is summoned for Lord Blackmoore to return to his home in private. After a few moments of questions the group finds out they have been gone for around 7 months! Being played by the demons of the blood realm has been a grueling and unpleasant affair. It is time for a rest and then its time to have a grand council meeting. All of the lodge will attend, even those from Bourgansbaine. In one month the Lodge of the Bronze Knight will once again set its eyes toward the future and the role they will play in it.

Seconding Grayfaced. I love the weird stuff, this sounds amazing.

Some of my players never enjoyed it. You know who you are- and absolutely, small stakes games can be fun. I ran a couple 'slums' campaigns, where even just acquiring a normal old long sword was a big deal. Games where it was all about PC-NPC interactions, robbing from this guy, starting a bakery (yeah really), having some laughs.

It was great, there's no doubt.

But for me, it wasn't quite enough. It works best like this, where you go from the mundane suddenly into high gear, disorienting and giving you that WTF feeling. My group usually wasn't into it, the outer planes and time traveling stuff... it sounded good in principle but maybe I just never quite pulled it off (only once or twice, when I learned my lessons, and gave the players an easy out when they needed it).

I was raised on games like Bard's Tale III, Chrono Trigger, and Final Fantasy Tactics, books like Dreamquest of Unknown Kadath, where the demons and time traveling come out of left field and define the whole game... where much of what you do goes on in the outer limits, away from civilization which has no concept of what you're doing for them, much less even who you are... where when you do succeed, you don't come home to the heroes' welcome, you didn't slay the dragon and save the princess, instead you went into another reality to save your own, in ways beyond the cognizance of ma and pa back on the farm. Maybe you don't even come home, you just die, or you're relegated to the void, sealing off incomprehensible Lovecraftian evil so that the price of hay remains the same in Hamletsville.

Anyway, good luck LotBK! Don't drink the well water.

Nice write up Rasfrasen. Love it when a plan comes together...

We made it back, tanned, refreshed and now back to reality. Gotta love vacations.

Rex, man you're getting old.

The grand council was as one would imagine a group of 48 different personalities trying to hammer out what they believe is a good set of governing rules. Lots of argument and discussion. We tried to keep most of it out of character to facilitate rule making. It was a group effort and now there are a set of rules made by all of us to govern the world we have been playing it. It also paves the way for the rotating gm plan. We are getting ready to start our third campaign and third gm soon based in Eagles Bluff. Here is a list of the changed rules for the Lodge of the Bronze Knight.

Treasure- One share of money for all involved plus the Lodge's share.
Items will be rolled for on a need before greed as defined by the involved group.
One item per person unless a special exception made by the involved group.

Lodge Seals- They may no longer be passed on or inherited for automatic membership. Membership is by reccomendation of a current member only and council approval.

Challenges- Challenges by combat or contest are removed for solving Lodge business. Formal complaints are resolved by a three person tribunal. Duels between members are allowed but will be conducted orderly.

Rank Stucture- Ranks and their structure have changed. There are now Platinum, Gold, Silver, Copper, Bronze and Tin seals. There are titles for both craftsmen and military types. A member may step down from any given rank to the next available step at any time.

Chapter Houses- Each chapter house must have a council member sponsor. This will also determine the number of current council members. Current seats are Razzeel for Llesendor, Vlad for Bourgansbaine, and Hargrim for Eagles Bluff.

Population- The numbers of each rank will be based on the total population of the lodge not the individual chapter house. New seals can be created as needed. The sole exception are the gold seals. They are tied to the magic inherent in the Lodge of the Bronze Knight and are lifetime appointments. They are the safety net for the Lodge's continued existance.

There are details that aren't important to note here as they are mainly for campaign continuity and things based on the number of players we have at the time. These new laws will govern the Lodge until the next Grand Council meeting in one year of game time.

Interesting changes.

I hope some intrigue within the chapterhouses is to be expected.

Politically a lot has changed.

Much of it seems away from a sort of faith based thing. Inherited seals, duels, treasure, etc. All very touched by the hand of bureaucracy.

God, perhaps, seems dead, and the lodge is open for business.

Fate in many games hates bureaucracy.

I will look more into the previous posts about the lodges formation.

Halflings......gotta love em.

Be well.

Gaius Osric Deagan (GOD) is alive and doing well, within the lodge you just need to find out which strings to pull and how hard to pull without breaking them or getting yourself killed.

You got to love it when a plan comes together...

The next chapter should be interesting, some new faces (characters) will be introduced and some old ones will be revisited... Really looking forward to seeing what Lars can do with it. Whatever the outcome I know it will be an exicting journey.
