I spent the better part of the week fooling around with a new d6-based system...which is more of a design exercise than anything else.

Anyone know of a good d6 system that isn't in a narrative-heavy game? I can see it working well where the dice take a backseat to story, but as a pillar of the system, I'm haven't yet seen a d6 mechanic that satisfies me.

I'm not unhappy with the system I'm kicking around, but it's bound to be a basic system by default. I think I'll slowly develop it as time permits. I've got a great name for it, anyway.

Back to Wayfarers.

You know, every new d6 system I've looked at has received my ire, though I have some memories of enjoying WEG's Star Wars system.

It seems d100, d20, and d12 games are the ones to look for anymore.

Still, I'll dig in and see if there's something. I know WEG has a generic d6 rulesbooks for the basic genres.

Seriously, d12? The d12 drives me crazy. It's like a sphere. It always ends up on the floor. Smile

I think d00 and d10 are pretty good too. However, I do like using all the dice I've got.

What I don't like, is when game playability suffers at the expense of a designer trying to make everything fit to a unified dice mechanic. I think too much value has been placed on that. I guess that's the problem I am running into with d6. The limited variability makes it a bit difficult to apply it to all the game's needs. I do admit, I didn't want to use exploding dice.

I'll have to take a look at WEG's Star Wars system.
