Orcs don't read. But the last good book I read was Tuff Voyaging by GRRM.

Thanks for the welcome!

Phred was something I inherited from my first DM over *cough, cough, hrmph* years ago. That an the pan-material plane franchise of Vomiting Goblin Inn & Taverns.

Hello *waves* I found Wayfarers posted over on DF, and recently picked up the print copy from Lulu. Just awesome.

Welcome Omote!

Sorry guys, I'm out of town. I'll deal with the spammer barrage when I return. Unless Greg can.

But, welcome Omote. Glad to hear you dig it!

The questions:

1) Neither, sometime orc.

2)'Beyond the Shadows', it reads like the author plays Wayfarers.

3) In which game?

Hello, everybody. I found out about Wayfarers at rpg.net, while lurking. Some guy was asking for fantasy rpg recommendations and someone from YOGC put in a short plug with a link. I looked, and liked what I saw in the download sampler, got the pdf yesterday and I am reading it voraciously. That's special because I have been reading rpgs for a few decades and have become a hard sell. This is good work, guys. One of the easiest to understand rules-wise and creative, interesting settings I have found. The highest praise I can think of, though, is that it feels like mature adults wrote it. Many rpgs (small press and otherwise) come off as juvenile at best. You guys have your finger on the pulse of the hobby better than WOTC ever dreamed possible. This should have been 3e! It's not perfect (maybe we can discuss some of that in the near future) but I think this is truly one of the best rpgs I have picked up, as is, bar none. Even if I am an old BRP man.

Fantastic!

Welcome Wolfie!

Thanks for the heap o' praise! -It's much appreciated.

Wait, what?! Greg told me it was perfect. It's the lack of hobbits, isn't it? I knew it. Blame Greg for that.

No seriously... We're all for discussing ways to improve/tweak Wayfarers. In fact, a design strategy was to make things amendable. No doubt my perfect game isn't yours, or even Greg Vrill's for that matter. In fact, we already have a few discussions about tweaking things to individual tastes in these forums. Also, check out the thread about the upcoming Wayfarers Guild Journal. So yes, let us have it!

Yeah, welcome!

Thanks Wolfie, and welcome.

Well, ya know, if there was a perfect RPG, then we'd all be done and could just go play that forever, ha. We worked hard to make it good, but, at least speaking for myself, my main goal was to introduce a number of ideas- or re-imagine a bunch of older ideas- that could inspire other gamers to go and make a better system and better world. Even if some of those ideas fall a little flat.

So absolutely we'd like to hear about what doesn't work, as that's the main way to grow and improve.

...

Never heard of Beyond the Shadows before, but here's an excerpt from an amazon.com review:

"Young Azoth sells his soul to a "Devil" by the name of Durzo Blint in order to protect his friends Jaral and Doll-girl. "

That is awesome in about three different ways, that I think I'll have to go pick it up.

Anything 'not perfect' is minor and has to do with personal quirks. I like this so much I think I'll get the hardback, print out some stuff for makin' up characters and go find some 4e gamers and show 'em what a real rpg looks like...

Beyond the Shadows is the third book of a trilogy, the first two are Way of the Shadow and Shadow's Edge. They are good, and full of ideas. A new type of magic, poison lore, and so on. I highly recommend it, although that doesn't mean much yet.

Poison Lore? Sure you haven't read this one, Greg?
