Reading through the catalog of creatures (CoC) section of Wayfarers one quickly realizes that it's up to the GM to decide what armors and weapons are used by creatures encountered by the group. This is not a difficult task for an experienced GM as myself, but for younger GMs this can be problematic.

I can appreciate the fact that most giants in the wilderness wear simple clothing (as described in the CoC), besides who is going to bother them? As a veteran GM, I can also appreciate the fact that giantkind encountered in and around Szondarch will more likely than not be better equipped due to their access to trained smiths with even the possibility of the giants to field an army with fearsome siege engines unlike any in the known world.

Basically it's the context in which the creatures are encountered which help determine how they are equipped. But for some creatures, especially for creatures of other planes/realms there is little to go on to determine equipment.

The issue I have is with the summoning spells. The spells don't define how the creatures are equipped and there is absolutely no context to pull from. Are the goblins summoned by a 6th circle spell wearing leather armor? Are they using shields? Do they have missile weapons? At least the demon summoning spells define the weapons used, but again it's up to the GM to decide on armor (if any).

It would be nice if there was a chart that gave a typical range of equipment used by most creatures or if in the creature descriptions some words on typical arms and armor were written.

Personally, (and I say this with sincerity) I think this might be doing the younger GMs a favor. Once they've figured out their minotaur might have a man-catcher (which isn't even in the book), they've broken through to the real gaming experience. That said, you make a good point.

Now that's what I am talking about. I am in.

It's a fair point, and this would make great WGJ or resource page material. I'm going to make a note of it now. If you don't do so, I will have a go at this myself in the near future.

But, as a general principle, I'd rather fluster the green gamer than the burden the experienced one. However, in this case, both can benefit. Thanks again for the thoughtful feedback, MJ.
